small apartment. that’s all she’s got. she eats leftovers, and heads to the bathroom. grabs her toothbrush and begins to brush. as she brushes, she heads towards her window. she watches the windows across hers.
northeast window, a lady feeds her birds, finishes her supper and finally heads to bed, alone.
northwest window, an old couple enjoy their meal together, they laugh, smile. a sweet kiss. as she watches the old couple she can’t help but smile.
southeast window, a woman wearing lingerie, waiting for her late-working husband. “the woman is clueless”, she thinks to herself, “her husband isn’t coming home tonight, for the third night in a row.” she knows that because she’s been counting every single night.
southwest window, a big man, small pregnant woman. he beats her with a belt. slams a door and chases her across the bedroom. she remembers old experiences, belt buckles still terrify her.
frankie finishes up brushing her teeth and still, after 3 years, heads to a lonely bed.
across town, he buys a hotdog for supper. next to him, a cheap hooker asks him if he desires any company. he asks how much she asked for the night. she answered a price he could definitely not pay. he walks away. she chases after him and joins him for a walk. later, they’re in his apartment. they settle for a different price. she begins to get undressed. he stops her and asks her to simply spoon with him that night. she stares at him for a while and finally agrees. they lay; she takes a look at her watch. 3 am.
johnny is fast asleep, holding her hand, spooning.
the loneliness still doesn’t go away.
